ABOUT
This hiking blog mostly covers trails in the Pacific Northwest, but Canada, New Zealand and Hawaii are featured heavily, too. In 2018-2019, I'm hoping to cover some trails in Japan, Ireland and Scotland, especially summiting Mt. Fuji and walking the West Highland Trail.
I am a Southerner by birth, Midwesterner by consequence, and now Pacific Northwestern by choice. I hiked often as a kid, but lost a lot of the desire when I moved to the Midwest. The Midwest certainly isn't devoid of outdoor opportunities, but I recently discovered that my outdoorsiness is mountain fueled (which is why I can't recommend a decent low elevation hike to save my life). I am undeniably drawn to the mountains. The sharp unforgiving features, the panoramic views, the streams, the waterfalls, the scrambles, the snow, the scree fields, the aggressive mountain goats that track you like packs of raptors, the summit bees. All of it. I still do consider myself a Midwesterner at heart, but not so much in terms of regional topography. That's more or less why I moved to the Pacific Northwest two years ago.
